i've decided this gnome project could take a Lev Kuleshov historical turn. for those who don't know, the Kuleshov experiment took the same shot of a man with a neutral expression and juxtaposed it with images of different things: food, a woman, a funeral, and found that ppl read different emotions into his expression, based on their own associations.see a short clip from the experiment here:
since i am working with a non-expressive, fixed/static subject (geoff), the responsibility for emotive effect lies solely on me and my ability to manipulate the images in just the right way.only instead of intercutting images, i'm using lighting and camera angle to create my effects.

I am on a dialogue kick of sorts too The oldboy DL I got is in Korean, which is great - I loath overdubbing (Viva silent movies, non?) But I'm taking the opportunity to do a bit of video forensics on the matter of subtitles (MIMETYPE .src) My research is on a 1997 computer system I have been building with a partition of an advanced version of Win98 and a non-update, delapidated version of WinXP-pro The former does not do subtitles - even with one video player that could But is otherwise great (my general assessment is that my work is made easier with OLDER technologies) The latter plays the subtitling, either in spanish or english, but has soundcard issues Using ancient software + gumption will uncover WHY these sorts of occurances exist in DETAIL
